Panasonic Energy CO₂ Hot Water Heat Pump: The Future of Efficient Heating

Upgrade to the pinnacle of sustainable home heating. By combining Panasonic’s world-leading CO₂ heat pump technology with premium storage tanks, this system delivers a high-performance, eco-friendly solution designed specifically for the New Zealand climate.

Why Choose the Panasonic CO₂ Heat Pump?

Most traditional electric hot water systems act like a giant kettle, consuming massive amounts of energy. The Panasonic system flips the script: it extracts free heat energy from the ambient outside air and transfers it to your water, resulting in up to 80% savings on your hot water bills.

Key Benefits

  • Unrivaled Efficiency: Achieve industry-leading energy savings. For every 1kW of electricity used, the system generates significantly more thermal energy, slashing your running costs and carbon footprint.
  • Built for New Zealand: Whether you’re facing a frost-prone winter or a scorching summer, this unit performs. With an operational range of -10°C to +44°C, it provides consistent hot water in even the toughest conditions.
  • Whisper-Quiet Operation: At a rated 37dB, the unit is as quiet as a library. You can install it near bedrooms or boundary fences without worrying about noise complaints or disturbing your peace.
  • Planet-Friendly Tech: Utilizing CO₂ as a natural refrigerant gives this system a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1. It’s the cleanest, greenest choice for homeowners looking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Sustainable Tip: By switching from a standard electric water heater to a Panasonic CO₂ Heat Pump, you aren’t just saving money, you’re actively participating in the global transition to a low-carbon future.

Smart Design, Smart Savings

The Panasonic and Reclaim Energy partnership ensures you get a system that is easy to install, simple to maintain, and built to last. It’s an investment that pays for itself through drastically reduced utility bills and the peace of mind that comes with industry-leading reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions: Panasonic CO₂ Hot Water

Navigating the world of heat pumps can be a bit like learning a new language. Here are the most common questions our customers have.

How does a heat pump work if it’s cold outside?

It sounds like magic, but it’s pure science. Even at -10°C, there is still “heat” energy in the air. The CO₂ refrigerant in the Panasonic unit has an incredibly low boiling point, allowing it to absorb that ambient heat, compress it (which makes it much hotter), and transfer it to your water tank.

Is 37dB really that quiet?

To put it in perspective: a standard conversation is about 60dB, and a quiet refrigerator is around 40dB. At 37dB, the Panasonic unit is barely audible. You can sleep soundly, and so can your neighbors, even if the unit runs during the night to take advantage of off-peak tariffs.

Why is CO₂ better than other refrigerants?

Most older heat pumps and air conditioners use synthetic refrigerants (like R134a or R410A) which have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) in the thousands. CO₂ has a GWP of 1. It is a natural refrigerant that is non-toxic, non-flammable, and has zero impact on the ozone layer.

Will I run out of hot water?

Not with this system. When paired with a correctly sized storage tank, the system is sized to meet the demands of your household. Because the Panasonic unit is so efficient at recovering (reheating) the water, you get a steady supply of high-temperature hot water throughout the day and night.

Can I use this with my Solar PV system?

Absolutely, this is where the real savings happen! You can set the system to run during the day when your solar panels are producing “free” electricity. This essentially turns your hot water tank into a thermal battery, storing solar energy in the form of hot water for use later that night.

How much space do I need?

The Panasonic heat pump is a compact “split system” design. The fan unit sits outside (similar to an air conditioning compressor), and the Reclaim Energy tank sits nearby. This flexibility makes it perfect for both new builds and retrofitting into existing homes with limited space.
